Her mother came to the United States in 1958, as an immigrant from Germany. Breast cancer was discovered in 1989. She died a decade later after fighting cancer. Handler's father was Jewish so she brought up Reform Judaism. Handler enjoyed a pleasant and healthy life growing up in an affluent neighborhood. In her early twenties Handler moved in Los Angeles in order to take on acting. In order to support herself, Handler began to work as an actress. Handler made the decision to pursue stand-up acting at the age of 21 following the realization of the power of storytelling. The beginning of her career Handler started her professional profession as part of the Oxygen network's all-female cast of the hidden camera/comedy reality television series Girls Behaving Badly. Between 2002 and 2005, the show aired. The handler started appearing on other shows like Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler started working as an associate for The Tonight Show. Handler received her first big break as she hosted her E! Show in 2006. Named The Chelsea Handler show. The show ran for 2 seasons.
